Bissessar] [Ann Schwidder]
Haimant Bissessar
Haimant Bissessar graduated with a BSc. in Biology from McMaster
University in 1985. Upon graduation he began working in the department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University performing research
into monoclonal antibodies and sperm function tests.
Since 1986, he has been employed by the Hamilton Health Sciences
where he has assisted in the establishment of the cryo bank and
worked as an embryologist in the invitro fertilization (IVF) program.
His current responsibilities include performing diagnostic andrology
tests, “sperm washing” and semen banking. In recent
years his focus of interest has been in sperm banking. He spearheaded
the reorganization of the Hamilton Health Science’s donor
sperm program in 1999, which lead to the realization that Canadians
should have access to quality donor sperm. Subsequently, Can-Am
Cryoservices Corp was established in partnership with Dr.
Salim Daya.
Through his innovative thinking Haimant was chosen as the recipient
of Serono's LIFE award in 2001. He continually strives for excellence
and has presented many abstracts and posters at the Canadian Fertility
and Andrology (CFAS) annual meetings.
